Dan Lloyd’s remarkable run in the 2018 TCR UK Series is set to continue thanks to a new sponsorship deal with York-based international power tool accessory brand Abracs Ltd.
Lloyd has been untouchable on track so far this season, with his 100% pole position and race winning streak rewarding the Huddersfield-based driver with an incredible 99 point Championship lead after just three events. Away from the track, however, the 26-year-old’s continuation in the series has been plagued with uncertainty with the Yorkshireman struggling to raise the necessary racing budget to complete the season.
“Honestly, on and off track this season couldn’t have been more different” commented Lloyd. “As soon as the elation of winning wears off you’re met with the possibility of not being able to compete in future races. It's been a trying time and a season long mental struggle to keep focused on racing. It’s the side of Touring Car racing that the fans don’t see but it affects a lot of drivers and teams”.
Thanks to recent local media coverage of Lloyd’s plight and remarkable racing success, the Abracs Ltd management team contacted Lloyd just before the Brands Hatch meeting and a new partnership was formed – securing his place in the championship-leading WestCoast Racing squad.
“I knew it was right when our lead mechanic overheard the conversation, held up an Abracs cutting disc and gave me the thumbs up;” added Lloyd. “We signed the deal within the week which gave me a real boost for the Brands Hatch Race as you could probably see on track. Now I can focus on what’s important for the rest of the season - winning more races”.
Alex Gowans, Head of Sales & Marketing at Abracs said; “Daniel’s obviously a hugely talented driver and it’s a dream deal for Abracs to be able to sponsor him at such a crucial stage of his season and career. We’re on board to support Daniel in pushing himself to the absolute limits of ability in future championships or series.
“Dan and TCR UK fit perfectly with our company profile and target market and we’re really excited to be involved. There are a few petrol heads here who can’t wait to get on the track themselves, me included!”
Lloyd’s WestCoast Racing VW Golf GTI TCR car will debut its new Abracs livery to fans for the first time at Castle Combe when the TCR UK Championship reconvenes for rounds 7 and 8 on July 15th.
