VW Cup and MINI CHALLENGE veteran Mark Wakefield will make his debut in the TCR-UK this weekend at Donington Park. Wakefield will compete in the newly acquired SEAT Cupra, raced by Carl Swift last time out at Oulton Park and this time owned and run by championship organisers, Maximum Motorsport.
Wakefield has been one to watch this season in the VW Racing Cup and has shown great pace, winning at the last round at Silverstone but reliability has meant he’s been hit with car troubles at each round but despite the problems, Mark is still running 3rd in the Championship.
This weekend in the TCR will be a great opportunity for Mark to show his skills behind the wheel, his Cupra having won a race at Oulton Park while piloted by Carl Swift.
Mark goes into qualifying having not driven the car so we look forward to seeing his performance over the weekend.
“Having the opportunity to race a TCR is defiantly one to tick off the bucket list, it has always been a dream to be part of the TCR grid and I never would of thought I’d of got there but it just goes to show hard work pays off!
I’d like to thank Maximum Motorsport (Stewart Lines) for putting this amazing opportunity together for me, Elite Engineering your amazing partnership for this race, My whole family especially my Fiancée Jodie and my son Lucas for your continuous support and mostly my Mum & Dad who have believed in me since the day I started racing.
We are also racing in the VW Cup this weekend where I’m currently running 3rd in the driver standings, so there’s a lot of track time for me this weekend!
What are my aims from this weekend?..
Keeping it on the black stuff, and coming in with a smile on my face. Obviously, I would love to get a podium finish and bring some silverware home for the Team in TCR and I will certainly be trying my best and most definitely I will be pushing for two podium finishes in the VW Cup.”
